I went to the Fisherman’s Feast last night to see the contest to build the highest cheese tower.  And I’ll be there again Saturday to see Julius La Rosa and Anna Maria Alberghetti sing. 

Sorrento string cheese, cosponsor of the feast, has a web site with lesson plans using string cheese.  http://www.sorrentocheese.com/teach_tools/index.cfm  You know you’re going to see some of these ideas in class in about three weeks.   

I saw a wonderful Netflix movie last night from the Film Movement Collection, Light of My Eyes (Luce dei miei occhi) in Italian with English subtitles.  Both stars are beautiful, and the story is sweet: tender Antonio falls in love with Maria who’s feeling defeated by life.  He tries to rescue her, wants her to love him, but she’s too distracted by the challenges facing her to notice how good he is. 

Like Respiro, which a group of us saw earlier this week, its message is about focusing on what’s good in life and leaving the rest behind.  I like both films very much, but this one is more tender.

There’s only one tough scene with a gun (no dogs this time, Rosamaria), and it would get an R if I were rating it.  (It doesn’t have an MPAA rating.)

I visited the beach at the Crane Estate in Ipswich tonight, and stopped at Theo’s Pizzeria on the way home for a delicious pie with spinach, broccoli, garlic, mozzarella, tomatoes, and pineapple.  And I enjoyed watching the pizzaiolo work while I waited.  The man throwing pasta and sauce up in the air as he handled the pans on the stove was a treat, too.  Excellent service and an excellent meal.

Today I got paid $100 to spend the day at MIT (10:00 - 4:00) and take computerized language tests.

In some of the tests, I had to try to understand texts translated by a machine.  For all you future linguists, it’s interesting.  If you want to get on the mailing list to see which studies are looking for paid subjects, email bcs-subjects@mollylab1.mit.edu.  All the tests were in English. 

I also learned that MIT pays 40 cents a word to people who can translate Arabic.
